We adapt our lives in order to belong. Ultimately, belonging ensures our safety and security in the world. The problem is that when you keep giving up who you are, and what is important to you, you become resentful, angry or depressed, and you lose your connection to self.
We have been trained since young to be polite, to not speak up about how we really feel, to have manners and to keep our opinions to ourselves. You have learnt through your experiences, that even if people don't say anything out loud, you can feel their opinions. And because you care so much about being liked you pretend to be someone you are not.
You can sustain this for a while, but you can't do it forever, and eventually you will grow tired and resentful. You might fight against the establishment, but the real cause is not them, it's you not wanting to make waves, and you wanting to be nice and liked at all costs.
The truth is that everybody judges, whether you like it or not. There is not a person on the planet who has not had a judgement about someone. Your mind has thoughts and they come and go, it's only when you choose to hang onto those thoughts about someone, or how you think they need to behave that you have a problem.
You cannot dictate to someone which thoughts they should have, just like you cannot know which thoughts you are going to have next.
